Records Management
The Council holds a large amount of information to
enable it to carry out its functions.
This information may relate to specific topics or individuals, and
it includes records kept by the Council of decisions and actions
taken, and the reasons for them. This is an essential support for
effective, evidence-based policy-making and service delivery.
It is, therefore, important to ensure that business information
is managed effectively throughout the organisation in whatever
format it is held.
A Code of Practice issued under Section 46 of the Freedom of
Information Act 2000 provides guidance for public authorities on
the records management practices they should follow to meet their
obligations under the Act.
Additionally, the Data Protection Act 1998 requires that
appropriate procedures and security measures are in place to ensure
the security of personal data.
Records Management Policies
The Council's Records
Management Policy
sets out how it will comply with the Code of
Practice. A Records Disposal Schedule sets out the categories
of records held, the period for which they will be retained and the
action to be taken at the end of that period.
