Being Different Together
In 2007, a team of Equality Officers based with
each Council in Worcestershire County successfully secured £232,000
from the Regional Improvement and Efficiency Partnership
(RIEP) capacity
building fund.
The money was used for a range of initiatives which helped the
project team to develop an Equality and Diversity strategy for
Worcestershire and engage with our diverse communities. Actions
included:
- Initial mapping of diversity issues in the County -
you can download the report here

- Community engagement activities – through networks and events
with community groups
- Support for the Equality Impact Assessment process in
consultation with the community and using their feedback
- Support for the measurement of achievements through validation
of Level 3 of the Equality Standard for Local Government
- Providing training on key areas of diversity for each
Council’s elected Members
- Sharing best practice between the seven Councils in
Worcestershire with each other and with other organisations.
The project was officially launched in July 2007 and was
completed in March 2010. Some of the achievements for Bromsgrove
included the highly successful Community Consultation Conference of
26th September 2009, a local Democracy project with a Bromsgrove
School, the Gender Equality Awareness Campaign run from November
2009 to March 2010 and some improved Hate Crime awareness training
run by Redditch Borough Council on behalf of Bromsgrove
District Council.
