You are here: Home Page > Advice and Benefits > Benefits > Benefits FAQs > When will it be paid?

When will your Benefit be paid from?

When will my benefit start?

Usually you benefit starts from the Monday after we receive your claim

If you move into a new home and claim Housing and/or Council Tax Benefit in the same week your claim may start from the day you move in

We will let you know in writing if you qualify or not.  If you do qualify we will tell you how much you will receive and the date your benefit will start from

Backdated benefit

It may be possible to backdate your claim if you have a good reason for not claiming from an earlier date.  You need to complete the section on the form regarding backdating or write to us separately giving the reason why you think benefit should be backdated.  We can only backdate for up to 26 weeks from the date you claim Housing/Council Tax Benefit.

Please note you may be asked to provide further evidence to support your request.
