Council Tax Benefit

If you are liable to pay Council Tax, you may be entitled to receive Council Tax Benefit.

If you pay Rent, you may be entitled to receive Local Housing Allowance (Housing Benefit)

Your entitlement to benefit will be calculated based on the following factors:

  • your capital, including any savings
  • your income
  • the amount of Council Tax, (or Rent), you pay
  • your family circumstances

Even if your income is high, if you share a house with other adults (except for a partner) who have low incomes, you may be able to claim Council Tax Second Adult Rebate.

Many people lose benefit because they delay making a claim therefore it is important that you claim as soon as possible.

More information about Council Tax and Local Housing Allowance (Housing Benefit), including details of how to claim, can be found on our benefit pages.
