Bromsgrove makes impact at regional
awards
The Bromsgrove District
Council and Chadsgrove School partnership is celebrating a strong
performance at the final of the BBC Midlands’ Power of Sport
Awards.
The ‘Keep on Moving’ project for people with
disabilities, run by Chadsgrove School and Bromsgrove Sports
Development, had a strong showing but was pipped to victory in the
BBC Midlands Power of Sport Awards by the ‘Bend it Like Birmingham’
project to provide football to over 300 minority ethnic youths in
diversionary activities.
Bromsgrove District Council portfolio holder
for elderly and vulnerable Cllr. Margaret Sherrey said: “My
congratulations go to the staff and partners who have worked so
hard on the Keep on Moving project, not to mention all the
participants themselves, without whom we wouldn’t be where we
are.
It was always going to be tough to win the
award given the other fantastic regional projects in the running,
but this recognition is deserved. The progress on sports
development in Bromsgrove District shows that people benefit when
organisations such as the Council and Chadsgrove School work in
partnership.”
Keep on Moving provides people with
disabilities opportunities to engage in a wide variety of sports
and activities. It focuses on what participants can do whilst
supporting them when they struggle, and it caters for all types of
disability, with participants having physical, learning and sensory
impairments.
The project includes community swim sessions
and a Boccia club at Chadsgrove School and Specialist Sports
College, and a multi sport club and dance classes at the Dolphin
Centre.
