Gym'll fix it in the New Year
A new gymnastics club set up by Bromsgrove
District Council and the North Worcestershire School Sport
Partnership has proved a big hit in its first few months.
The independent Bromsgrove Gymnastics Club, based at Meadows First
School every Saturday is now in its fourth month and in that time
has already attracted over 60 members and is now seeking a spike in
new members into the New Year.
The club was set up by Bromsgrove District Council's Sports
Development team and the North Worcestershire School Sport
Partnership, which continues to fund its co-ordinator and
professional Community Sports Coach, Andrea Paice.
She said: "The club has proved really popular. We've even had our
own t-shirt uniforms made up now and I hope that lots of youngsters
who are interested in gymnastics will come and get involved with
something new for the New Year."
Bromsgrove Gymnastics Club is affiliated to the National Governing
Body British Gymnastics and works towards its proficiency awards
scheme. Each week the children progress their skills on the
equipment in a safe, friendly and enjoyable environment.
Bromsgrove District Council portfolio holder for youth sports,
recreation and culture Roger Smith said: "When a shortage of
provision of healthy activities in the local area was identified,
and clear demand for gymnastics became clear, the Council worked
with partners to help the Bromsgrove Gymnastics Club get started
and continues to provide support.
"The success of the club tells us that young people want the
opportunity to experience high quality coaching, and that by
providing that opportunity we are working in the right
direction."
