More Recycling Residents
More residents across Bromsgrove will be able
to recycle as the District Council is set to extend its already
successful service to extra homes.
The fortnightly recycling collection service,
which moved from kerbside boxes to a green wheeled bin in January,
will now see almost 1600 extra households being able to recycle,
over the next six months.
The improved scheme saw residents being able
to put all recyclables, and a larger range of materials, in the
green bin, meaning they could recycle more. However for a host of
reasons including access and storage capacities, not all homes
could benefit from the scheme.
But from September 789
properties currently using residential bulk bins and not receiving
any recycling services, will be issued ‘green lid’ bulk bins and,
as part of the improvements, 804 properties not
currently receiving any recycling service due to difficult access
issues will now be added to the kerbside boxes collection round.
Also 207 existing properties receiving the
fortnightly kerbside box collections will receive the fortnightly
green wheeled bin collection service.
Portfolio-holder for Community Services, Cllr
Mike Webb, said: “We already give the service
to 95% of residents and these latest moves will see us closer our
aim of 99.2% without costing the taxpayer anymore money.
“While not all residents will be receiving our
green bin recycling service, in total 1593 additional properties
will be receiving a recycling collection where a collection service
which was not offered previously.
“And 207 properties will receive a service
improvement. This is great news for residents and all part of our
ongoing improvements to this service in a bid to get people
recycling more!”
All changes to services are planned to
roll out from September 2010 until March 2011. All
residents involved will be notified directly and arrangements made
to facilitate the new collection services.
