Be part of Olympic ceremony celebrations
To celebrate the opening of the London 2012 Olympic Games,
Bromsgrove District Council is holding a special event at Sanders
Park on Friday 27 July from 5pm – 10.30pm.
As part of the celebrations, there will be a giant screen
showing live coverage of the official opening ceremony from 7.30pm.
Local dance and arts groups, schools and sports clubs have been
invited to perform and showcase their talents throughout the
evening.
The council is also looking for local people who enjoy dancing
to take part in a social dance in the park. Enthusiasts will be
able to waltz, foxtrot and quick-step their way around an outdoor
dance floor to Ballroom, Sequence and Latin inspired music with
organist Tony Roberts. There are two twenty-minute social dance
slots available from 5pm – 5.20pm and 6.40pm – 7pm. Places are
limited and need to be pre-booked.
As well as the big screen and on-site performances, there will
be a range of family fun activities and games taking place at
Sanders Park. Food and refreshments will also be available to
purchase at the event.
Cllr Mike Webb, Portfolio Holder for Leisure at
Bromsgrove District Council, said: “An estimated worldwide
TV audience of over a billion people will watch the opening
ceremony live. Make sure you get down to Sanders Park to join in
the celebrations and fun activities on offer.”
