Poems in the Park

On Tuesday 26th July there was a poetry workshop for children on the Band-stand in Sanders Park as part of the Council's Summer Fun programme. The workshop was led by local poet Lis Berreen, assisted by Hannah Coulson who is studying for an English degree.

The children and their parents who attended were from Bromsgrove, Rubery, Redditch and Worcester and there was even a visitor from Japan. The age range was from 4 – 10 although there were a number of younger children who enjoyed colouring nursery rhyme pictures.

The poems were written in a variety of styles from free verse to Acrostics and Haikus. Jessie who lives with her family in Japan wrote and performed her Haiku in Japanese which is where this form of verse originates.

Some of the children will be accompanying Lis to the Street Theatre on Wednesday 3rd, 10th and 17th to perform their poems. All proceeds from the workshop are going to the ABC Charford project.

The poems are as follows:-
