Nature conservation at
Lickey End
Habitats
As part of the West Midlands Biodiversity Pledge and our
commitments to deliver the actions of the Biodiversity Action Plan
have been delivered with improvements to the habitat of the
Water Vole (Arvicola Amphibious). In 2009
Bromsgrove District Council worked alongside the Worcestershire
Wildlife Trust and the Environment Agency to create a small wetland
reserve.

Bromsgrove Council engaged with local schools
to encourage pupils to take an active approach to
conservation. Bromsgrove School has supported work at Lickey
End Recreation with projects such as planting of the new reserve,
coppicing trees and removing shrub layers to reduce the shading
alongside the Spadesbourne Brook.

Wooden posts have been installed at key points
alongside the banks of the water course to
prevent close mowing regimes and reduce maintenance activity.
Surveys are continually being carried out to identify
numbers of water vole colonies along this brook course.
