Conservation

Sanders Park is home to the endangered water vole (arvicola amphibious) who reside along the natural banks of the Battlefield Brook.

The Battlefield Brook is a critical ordinary watercourse which runs through the heart of the park. The Brook was heavily canalised in 1963 and has created a barrier for wildlife to migrate downstream. Bromsgrove District Council are working with the Battlefield Brook Project Team including, The Environment Agency and the Worcestershire Wildlife Trust to improve the watercourse.

In October 2009 work commenced on removing a 50 metre trial reach of concrete to naturalise this section. The results are being monitored to assess the impact on flows and wildlife.
