Primary Sport Project

Primary Sport Project is designed to deliver a safe, enjoyable and memorable introduction to a range of different sports and to encourage children to adopt healthy active lifestyles in the long term.

The purpose of the Primary Sport Project is to support and compliment the work of teaching staff in schools across the key stages of the National Curriculum.

We aim to:-

  • Provide a welcoming environment for children to enjoy and participate in healthy physical activity.
  • Treat all children as individuals and provide them with the appropriate encouragement and guidance to build their self belief and confidence.
  • Promote the worth of health and fitness and the value of active lifestyles.
  • Stress the importance of fair play and encourage participants to abide by the rules and to play within the 'spirit' of the game.
  • Provide a progressive and structured programme of activities leading to further opportunities in the wider community.
  • Develop core movement, co-ordination and ball skills, providing a foundation for long term sporting participation.
  • Emphasise the importance of team work and co-operation, and provide opportunities for children to develop inter-personal and social skills.
  • Broaden children's knowledge and understanding of specific sports and their rules and tactics.
  • Adopt a child-centered approach and place each child's welfare above that of the end result of the performance.

          Primary Sport Project

The philosophy behind the Primary Sport Project is one of maximum involvement and .enjoyment.  We want children to have fun.  Game playing is at the heart of sessions and skill development and technical practice are always related to game play. Primary Sport Project staff attempt at all times to inspire and motivate children to continue their participation in sport after the programme of sessions comes to an end.

Sessions can be booked in half termly blocks by schools and are made available to children via the school system.  If you wish to find out if your school is currently part of the Primary Sport Project, or you would like your school to access one of our sports coaches to deliver sessions please email sportsdevelopmentenquiries@bromsgrove.gov.uk.
