Sport Unlimited is an innovative youth sports programme from
Sport England which cascades funding to local communities via the
county sports partnerships network, in the case of Bromsgrove via
the Sports Partnership Herefordshire & Worcestershire and with
combined funding from Worcestershire Schools Extended Services.
The Sport Unlimited programme started its first year in 2008 and
its third and final year draws to an end in March 2011.
It’s targeted at youngsters aged 5-19 years old who may have
some interest in sport, but aren’t particularly engaged with
community or club sport.
Bromsgrove District Council's Sports Development Team has worked
alongside North Worcestershire School Sport Partnership and
Extended Services to develop a comprehensive programme of sport and
active recreation opportunities to increase opportunities for young
people.
The programme of activities has been developed utilising
consultation from children and young people about the type and
range of activities they would like to engage in, whilst also
endeavouring to address some of the shortfalls in provision within
the district for certain sports.
Previous programmes include Trampolining, Sailing,
Skateboarding, Street Dance, Dodgeball and Archery. These sit
alongside more traditional sports such as Hockey, Rugby and Tennis,
usually delivered on school site where they are more inclined to
try the activity and encouraged to continue into a Club
environment.
Wherever possible a local sports club has been identified and
worked with in order to provide an exit route for anyone who
participates in the activities offered. Sports Development
aims to work with
Club Mark accredited clubs or clubs who have demonstrated a
commitment to achieving Clubmark.
