Brown Bin

Residents who take advantage of the council’s garden waste collection services are being reminded to check when their bin should go out.

This year’s service, which starts on 1st March, is being made more efficient which means some residents could see a change for when they need to put their bin out.

The new service will now see more effective routes used for the collections and allow for expansion of the service to more homes. For some residents this may mean that they will still have to put their garden waste out alongside their green or grey bins but it could be a different collection to last year.

Please note that the day of collection will remain the same.

Cllr Peter Whittaker the Portfolio Holder for Environmental Services, said: “In previous years the mapped routes meant we might do part of an area one week and finish the rest the week after. This could mean that part of an area had their garden waste bins collected alongside their recycling and the others with their normal waste. The new routes are more efficient so everyone in a particular area will get their garden waste collected at the same time. For most people there won’t be a change but we’d encourage everyone to check just to make sure.”

Bin collection timetables can be checked by clicking here or by contacting Environmental Services. Look out for stickers that will be placed on the bins of affected properties in the coming week.
