Recreation Ground Upgrade 2016

Families using Bromsgrove’s town centre Recreation Ground are getting a brand new play area.

A new suite of exciting urban-themed facilities is being installed there over the next four weeks so they can be ready in time for the summer holidays.

The new area is being planned, delivered, and maintained by Bromsgrove District Council, using planning gain money.

Councillor Peter Whittaker, Bromsgrove District Council’s portfolio holder for Leisure, said: “We’re delighted to be able to bring this latest major park upgrade to our residents. We know that people really value improved and modernised play facilities that keep on giving children and families more and better opportunities for active outdoor fun.

“Sorry for any disruption in the meantime, please bear with us as contractors carry out the works.”

The park will pay homage to Recreation Road’s recent history by including a ‘grand arch’ featuring references to a former local Drill Hall. A wartime drill hall had stood on Recreation Road, but after becoming dilapidated and failing to achieve listed status it was cleared by its owner to make way for the major redevelopment of that area that is now taking place.
