St George Thumbs Up

Young people from across the district can come together to help create something special for this year’s St George’s Day celebrations.

Teens aged 13 -19 can get involved in free, creative activities, including themed drawing, painting and making, all under the supervision of a professional artist.

The workshops will run from 5pm – 7pm on various dates (below) and will cover ways to develop ideas, skills and techniques. There will also be free pizza and refreshments for everyone that attends. The final artwork will be part of a stall at the St Georges Day event.

Cllr Rod Laight, whose portfolio covers leisure services, said: “It’s important for young people to have something positive to get involved in. At this time of the year, with Easter and school holidays, there tends to be a lot of things for younger children to do but teens get left out.

“These sessions mean that young people can get involved in something productive as well as making new friends and having lots of fun – and free pizza!”

The sessions will run on 9th, 16th and 23rd March and 13th and 20th April, in the run up to St George’s Day on 23rd April.

Young people are welcome to attend as many workshops as they wish.

The free sessions will be held at Starlight Community Centre, situated on Humphrey Avenue, Charford, B60 3JB.

The events are being organised by Bromsgrove District Council in partnership with VIPA, YMCA Worcestershire and BDHT.
