An unauthorised building has been removed from the green belt after Bromsgrove District Council enforcement action was upheld by the Planning Inspectorate.

The owner of the building on land off Barkers Lane in Wythall had appealed to the Inspector against the district council’s refusal to grant retrospective planning permission, and a subsequent Enforcement Notice requiring it to be removed.

The Planning Inspector dismissed the appeals and, with prosecution looming, the structure has now been removed.

Planning officers from the district council discovered the building, which was over 2.5 metres (over 8ft) high and over 4 metres (over 13ft) long, during a site visit in July 2012.

Bromsgrove District Council’s Head of Planning and Regeneration Ruth Bamford said: “Preventing inappropriate development, including protection of the Green Belt, is one of the many duties of this council as a planning authority. It’s important that the law is followed and it is encouraging that no prosecution was required to resolve this matter.”

Any development without the relevant planning permission may be a breach of planning control, which is subject to enforcement action. Anyone who suspects a breach of planning control can make a complaint online here or in writing to our Development Control team here. Complainants’ details are never disclosed.
