For the fifth year running Bromsgrove and Redditch Councils are working in partnership with Artrix and the libraries in Bromsgrove and Redditch to offer a month’s programme of events, exhibitions and information displays in recognition of LGBT History Month.

Celebrated throughout the month of February, this year was kicked off with a free evening of networking, information stalls and a screening of “Pride” on Tuesday at the Artrix Centre in Bromsgrove.

Artrix will also be putting on showings of “Carol” (15) on the 17th February and “The Danish Girl” (15) on 16th and 21st February.

Rutherford Dance Company will also be performing at Artrix on 12th Feb, with a performance of “Never Going Home Again” that investigates the differences defined by sexual orientation, focusing on the reaction of Coming Out.

Both Redditch and Bromsgrove Libraries will be holding exhibitions and book displays to raise awareness of LGBT History Month from the 1st to 29th February before the celebrations finish with an Art Exhibition and Event at the Palace Theatre, Redditch on 4 March.

Cllr Margaret Sherrey, Leader of the Council, said: “The LGBT History Month celebrations have become more and more popular each year and those attending previous events have confirmed how it gives them a sense of recognition, value and inclusion in the community. As a council we are keen to recognise all sections of our community and the contributions they make so I am really pleased that we are partaking in this event.”

LGBT History Month is held in February every year in the UK and celebrates and recognises the contribution made to society by Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Trans-gender members of the community.
