WRS160010 Wythall Business In Food Award First

Worcestershire’s top award for healthier and locally sourced menus has for the first time been won by a company restaurant.

Phoenix Group in Wythall, which employs around 600 people, received a gold level Healthier Choices Food Award from Worcestershire Regulatory Services (WRS) for its on-site restaurant.

The restaurant’s commitment to a wide variety of healthier choices and use of local produce impressed WRS inspectors, who reported that the restaurant went ‘above and beyond’ the requirements of the award scheme.

The awards recognise businesses with exceptional healthier and flexible menu options and are only open to businesses that already have the highest possible food hygiene rating.

Cllr Bronwen Behan, WRS Joint Committee Chairman, said: “Phoenix Group is the first staff restaurant in the county to scoop the Healthier Choices Food Award.

“The awards are designed to encourage food businesses to provide more options for healthier balanced diets and with their huge salad bars, vending machines with healthier choices, and healthier dessert options like fruit and yoghurt Phoenix Group are certainly doing that. We congratulate them for providing their customers, in this case their employees, with lots of healthier options while they work.”

Inspectors also praised the restaurant’s work promoting ‘no waste days’.

Nigel Biggs, Catering Team Manager said: “The team are delighted to have achieved the Healthier Choices Food Award (Gold standard) in conjunction with Worcestershire Regulatory Services. Staff wellbeing is at the heart of Phoenix’s corporate responsibility agenda so it is important that our onsite restaurant offers choice including a range of healthier meal options. This combined with our other wellbeing activities on site, helps to keep staff fit and healthy at work.”
