R17009 Redditch To Remember The Holocaust

Residents are invited to join nine schools and readers from all faiths to take part in a public Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) event in Bromsgrove this month.

Cllr Helen Jones, Chairman of Bromsgrove District Council and host of the event, said: “Every year we set aside time to remember and think about the tragedy and atrocity of the Holocaust as a community, so that such a thing may never be allowed to happen again.

“This year up and down the county the theme for Holocaust Memorial Day is ‘how can life go on’, which asks us to consider our own responsibilities in the wake of genocide. There are no simple answers but the important thing is that we continue to ask it and discuss it together.”

The event will be in the Parkside Suite, Market Street, Bromsgrove B61 8DA, on Thursday January 26 at 11am.

HMD itself is 27 January each year for, as stated by the HMD Trust, “everyone to pause to remember the millions of people who have been murdered or whose lives have been changed beyond recognition during the Holocaust, Nazi Persecution and in subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.”

In The Holocaust 11 million people including six million Jews were systematically murdered in Europe between 1941-45 by the Nazis and their collaborators. It is the worst genocide in history.
