Helen Jones chairman

Residents are being given the opportunity to suggest a charity to benefit from the fundraising the Chairman of Bromsgrove District Council will carry this year.

Every year the Chairman of the district council chooses one or more charities to be the beneficiaries of the fundraising they carry out over their year in office.

Now Cllr Helen Jones, who began her second year as Chairman last night after being re-elected at the council’s annual meeting, is turning to the public to make suggestions as to what that charity could be.

Cllr Jones said: “Last year generous members of the public helped to raise just over £4,000 for Sunfield, which I chose as my charity because I felt that the money could really make a difference to some local children with severe and complex learning and behavioural needs.

"Whilst I was out at events over the year I came across many charities in Bromsgrove who do an amazing job raising money, and many of them I’d not heard of before. So this year I would like to provide them an opportunity to be showcased as the civic charity while I help raise money for them. I’d like to listen to what residents have to say to choose the charity.

“The criteria is that the charity must be is registered and it needs to be within the Bromsgrove District. I’m really looking forward to seeing what people suggest.”

To nominate a charity for the Chairman’s new year in office, please email chairman@bromsgrove.gov.uk with your reasons why in no more than 250 words by Wednesday May 31st.

The chosen charity will be confirmed at or before the next council meeting in June.
