B17049 New Leisure Centre Operator Confirmed Web

Bromsgrove District Council has awarded a long term contract to run new and improved leisure services in Bromsgrove District to leisure operator Everyone Active.

Everyone Active, which is the trading name for Sports and Leisure Management, won a competitive tender process for the 21-year contract that includes running the new Bromsgrove Sports and Leisure Centre currently under construction in Bromsgrove.

Cllr Peter Whittaker, Bromsgrove District Council’s portfolio holder for Leisure, said: “In a highly competitive process for the opportunity to run our exciting new leisure centre and swimming pools, Everyone Active came out on top.

“This council believes great, accessible opportunities for physical activity are vital for the community. We hope that through our new centre and this partnership with Everyone Active we’re providing these for even more people, on a sound and sustainable basis, for many years to come.”

The new Bromsgrove Sports and Leisure Centre will replace the 1970s Dolphin Centre in Bromsgrove Town Centre this year.

The old centre was run by the district council directly until 2010, and then by Wychavon Leisure Trust, and Everyone Active will now take the reins from September to manage the transition to the new centre. All existing staff are due to be retained by Everyone Active, which manages 150 facilities across the country in partnership with 45 different local authorities.

John Godwin, Bromsgrove District Council’s Head of Leisure Services, said: “I’d like to put on record our thanks to Wychavon Leisure Trust for their excellent work running our ageing leisure centre these past few years. They’ve achieved great results managing a challenging situation there and have provided great support to the council and its residents.”

David Bibby, Managing Director of Everyone Active said: “As the UK’s longest established leisure provider, our aim is to encourage more communities to improve their health and wellbeing by taking part in physical activity. We are pleased to be working in partnership with the Council to deliver improved leisure facilities across the district.

“We are confident our new partnership will help to encourage the local community to lead a more active lifestyle.”

The Bromsgrove Sports and Leisure Centre is currently set to feature two swimming pools including one with a movable floor, the district’s first clip and climb wall, full gym and fitness services, treatment rooms, and spa and sauna.

The centre has bigger and better facilities thanks to a £1.5 million grant from Sport England and, unlike the Dolphin Centre, is self-funding. It has been designed to be capable of making enough money to cover its own costs.

The new centre is currently being built on School Drive in Bromsgrove by contractors Morgan Sindall.
