Father Christmas

There’s excitement all around as this year’s Bromsgrove and Rubery Light Switch On events are back!

Festivities will be kicked off in Bromsgrove with the annual Christmas Lights Switch On event on Saturday 18th November and the lights in Rubery will be switched on the following week from New Road on Saturday 25th November.

In Bromsgrove the switch on will be returning to its old spot outside the Golden Cross Pub. It will be hosted by Malcolm Boyden from BBC Hereford and Worcester and Pudsey Bear will be turning on the lights with other special guests at 5.30pm.

There will be entertainment throughout the event with live music from Chadsgrove School Choir, Bobby's Girls and Artrix's Songstars Show Choir as well as the opportunity to meet a 10ft snowman and of course Father Christmas! Cast members from All & Sundry's production of Cinderella will be in the high street to provide some entertainment and promote their pantomime which will be performed at The Artrix from the 16th-23rd of December.

In Rubery the following week, the lights will be switched on at 5.30pm at the usual venue on New Road. Visitors can enjoy music from Bobby's Girls, Issi Young and local Choirs as well as getting another opportunity to meet the 10ft Snowman and Santa.

New for both events in 2017 will be a juggling, mystic ball and light glow show to keep visitors wowed as it starts to get dark outside.

Both events will run from 3.30pm, with the lights being switched on at 5.30pm.

The Primrose Hospice Tree of Lights will be switched on in a ceremony at 5pm in both areas. The tree in Bromsgrove is outside ASDA, and the Artrix Songstar Showchoir will sing at the tree before the switch is thrown.

There will also be a two day Christmas Market in Bromsgrove High Street on 17th and 18th November in line with the switch on, in partnership with Friends of St Johns. There will be craft stalls hosted by local traders providing gifts and decorations, festive food and drinks and entertainment throughout the day.
