Event safety and doing your risk assessment

Risk assessments are simply about taking - and showing that you’ve taken - common sense steps that minimise the chances of someone getting hurt. Don’t be daunted!

For example:

  1. Consider using plastic cups instead of glass.
  2. If you’re going to have a PA system, how can you ensure the speakers won’t topple over?
  3. Have you taped loose cables to the ground so people won’t trip over them?
  4. Can anyone at your event do basic first aid should the need arise?

Keep a written record of how you’ve assessed your risks. Here’s an example risk assessment form for you to use if you want. There are many other example forms available from various sources online.
