Permission for metal detecting

If you want to go metal detecting on our land, you’ll need our permission first.

Here's our guide to the permitted use of metal detectors on our land. It includes some ‘best practice’ advice for use of metal detectors on privately owned land, but we can only consider permitting detecting on land we own.

You may be trespassing if you go on land without permission!

Apply for permission

You'll need public liability insurance to £10m, amongst other things. Please refer to the guidance on this page.

For more information please contact the National Council for Metal Detecting.
