Do you know a Community Hero?

Working with the Safer Bromsgrove Group, Bromsgrove District Council’s Community Safety Team are launching the Community Safety Partnership’s Community Hero Awards.

As part of Anti-Social Behaviour Week (3rd to 9th July 2024) the Team are creating a series of awards to recognise the great work that individuals, communities, and businesses in the area are doing to reduce anti-social behaviour.

The newly created awards have four categories and open for nominations on the 3rd of May.

Chief Executive of Bromsgrove District Council and Chair of the North Worcestershire Community safety Partnership, Sue Hanley, said: “These new awards are designed to recognise the excellent and really important work that is happening at a grass root levels in our communities across Redditch and Bromsgrove. We want to honour all those who help make our communities feel safer for all those who live, work, and play in the area by actively working to reduce anti-social behaviour and its negative impact on our neighbourhoods.”

Three of the four awards will be given in recognition of a specific project or piece of work that has supported the reduction of anti-social behaviour within a community and has resulted in people feeling safer. The categories are:

  • Youth Award – this award will be open to young people aged between 18 and 25 and organisations who work with young people.
  • Communities Award – This award will be open to any adult or group within a community.
  • Business Award – This will be open to any business operating in the District.

The fourth award is the Extra Mile Award. This will be given to recognise an extraordinary individual / group / business or community leader whose actions have gone above and beyond to reduce anti-social behaviour within their community, resulting in increased feeling of safety for residents and/or visitors.

Nominations open on the 3rd of May and close on the 31st of May.

Sue added: “We look forward to welcoming all those who are nominated for an award by their peers to a special celebration event later in the year.”

All nominees will be invited to a presentation evening on the 4th of July, National Community Heroes Day, at Bromsgrove Rugby Club between 6pm and 8.30pm.
