Inter Faith Week 2011
Bromsgrove marked the start of Interfaith Week 2011 with a day
long event celebrating and recognising all aspects of Islamic
history, faith and culture under the title of "Celebrate Eid in
Bromsgrove".
This was the second year that the Bromsgrove Muslim Community
Trust has organised this event in partnership with Bromsgrove
District Council. Over 500 people from all parts of Bromsgrove and
all walks of life joined us during the day and took part in the
many activities on offer.
The event was officially opened at 12.15 pm by the Civic Head
for Bromsgrove District Council, Councillor Mrs Caroline
Spencer.
All food and refreshments were free of charge and donations were
made for the charity, Communication For Blind
People. This charity helps blind and visually impaired
people by training them in the use of assistive technology gives
which gives them more personal independance. They can be contacted
at 12 High Street, Greenhithe, Kent DA9 9 NN.
A short talk was given in the afternoon by a
local person, Stephanie Sergeant, who explained how she
uses this technology.A total of £266.51 was raised for the charity
and this will pay for 3 local people to be trained in how to use
the Android phone with the talking mobility application. This
application includes a programme which can turn a picture into a
spoken description. Stephanie wishes to thank everyone who
contributed to the collection last Saturday.
The event was also supported by Hereford and Worcestershire Fire
and Rescue Service who attended with one of their fire
appliances which was a great hit with all the children.
Undoubtedly the highlight of the day for children was the return
of the highly successful, entertaining and larger than
life "Jimbo"!
A great deal of fun was had by all who attended and you can
read
the summary of comments here. These will be upadted as more
replies are received and added to the summary of comments. If you
attended the event but didn't get a copy of the
Customer Satisfaction Questionnaire you can download it
here. All questions are optional and all answers
anonymous. Just hand your copy in to the Customer Service or post
to the Council House, Burcot Lane, Bromsgrove B60 1AA.
It is anticipated that this event will be repeated in 2012 and a
provisional date of 17th November has beent set. Further details
will be confirmed nearer the date.
This event was run for the first time in 2010 and was a
