LGB&T
LGB&T stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans
(gender).
Bromsgrove District Council seeks to engage with all sections of
the community including people who are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and
Trans(gender). In line with the General Equality Duty as laid down
in the Equality Act 2010, in relation to sexual orientation and
transgender status, we seek to
- eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and
victimisation and other conduct prohibited by the Equality Act
2010
- advance equality of opportunity between people who
share a protected characteristic and those who do not;
and
- foster good relations between people who share a
protected characteristic and those who do not
We seek to ensure that we do not discriminate against
LGB&T community members in the provision of our services or in
the offer of employment opportunities.
In recognition of the need to foster good relations between
LGB&T community members and the rest of the community, in
partnership with other interested organisations and community
members and groups, we have run 3 annual events celebrating
LGB&T History Month in February. These events have been open to
everyone and you can read about these events and the outcomes by

In 2011, our Fourth Community Consultation Conference asked that
the Council should
- consider how to ensure that services reach older
members of the LGB&T community where they don't take up
services,
- become a hub for displaying information about support
groups for the LGB&T community,
- this should include "Together Bromsgrove" (the
Council's magazine for Bromsgrove residents) and the Council's
website
We have sought to include relevant information and partner
involvement for older members of the LGB&T community in our
LGB&T History Month celebratory events. We intend to ensure
that any initiatives relating to older people in which we are
involved, such as celebrating International Older People's Day,
will include this same provision.
To meet the request for the Council to become a hub for
displaying information we have now provided a new page with local,
regional and national contacts to assist local community members
who wish to seek advice or join with community groups and events
that are aimed at LGB&T community members. You can access this
information by clicking on this
link.
We are committed to working towards the elimination of
discrimination, harassment and victimisation and any other conduct
prohibited by the Equality Act in relation to sexual orientation
and transgender status. In partnership with Redditch Borough
Council we provide a mechanism for reporting hate incidents and
with relevant local partners we seek to support victims of hate
crime and seek to resolve any issues that have arisen. You can report a hate incident on line here.
