Equality and
Diversity
We published our Inclusive
Equalities Scheme
in December 2006.
The Inclusive Equalities Scheme includes our policy on
all six strands of equality and diversity and incorporates our
legal duties to produce individual Schemes for Race Equality,
Disability Equality and Gender Equality.
In preparing the Inclusive Equalities Scheme, we spent
considerable time reviewing our processes and researching best
practice. We also engaged with and involved a wide range of
partners, community groups and community members and this enabled
us issue the Scheme for formal consultation in September 2006. The
formal consultation period closed at the beginning of November 2006
and the final version of the Scheme was published in early December
2006.
In agreement with community partners we have arranged to extend
the lifetime of our current Scheme by a further 18 months taking it
up to June 2011. This will enable the District Council to line up
the three year cycles of our Scheme with those of the County
Council. It will also enable us to produce a new version of the
Scheme to take into account any changes required by the Equality
Act 2010.
The original commitments, targets and objectives therefore
remain in place with some new objectives for equality on the
grounds of sexual orientation, religion/ belief and age.
We have now produced a written review of the Scheme which you
can download here "Review
of Inclusive Equalities Scheme - December 2009"
