Schools turn litter into glitter
Creative
youngsters from a Bromsgrove school proved they have a tree-mendous
flair for recycling as they won a District-wide recycling
competition.
School children in first and primary schools
were challenged to make the best Christmas tree decorations out of
recycled waste in Bromsgrove District Council’s ‘From Litter to
Glitter’ competition.
The schools put their ideas to the test to
make baubles and globes for the branches of their Yuletide tree,
and the boys and girls of Tardebigge First School came top of the
class. They scooped a £150 prize for their school to spend on an
environmental project.
Tardebigge First School’s Head Teacher Mrs.
Julie Cutler told the Council that the prize money is to go on a
bird box that the pupils have asked for, and other green projects
they would like to do.
Chairman of Bromsgrove District Council Cllr
Chris Scurrell had the difficult job of choosing the winning entry.
He said: “All the entrants did very well indeed with imaginative
and creative ideas as they transformed and recycled waste materials
into seasonal decorations.
“Well done and thank you to all schools who
took part, and congratulations to Tardebigge First School with
their exceptionally impressive effort.”
Rachel Kennett, the Council’s Waste Policy and
Promotions Officer and competition organiser, said: “The youngsters
found it was fun making the decorations, and it helped to teach
them how to reduce, reuse and recycle their waste.’’
“A big thank you and well done to the schools
who took part - and congratulations to Tardebigge First
School!”
