Council wins national procurement award
Bromsgrove District
Council has scooped a prestigious national procurement award.
The Council has been awarded the Society of
Procurement Officers in Local Government (SOPO) Award for
Outstanding Achievement in Procurement 2009.
It gained the award for a collaborative
insurance project undertaken with Improvement and Efficiency West
Midlands, Bromsgrove, Malvern Hills, Wychavon and Wyre Forest
District Councils, Staffordshire Moorlands Borough Council and
Worcester City Council.
The project saw the councils jointly tender
their insurance requirements. It has been running for over 12
months and has delivered over £1.7m in savings.
The award was presented at the annual SOPO
Conference last week (11th November). It recognises the hard
work of the Council’s finance department, and the corporate
procurement team.
Bromsgrove District Council’s Portfolio Holder
for Resources Cllr Geoff Denaro said: “This is great news, not just
for this Council but for our customer as the award recognises the
savings we have made which will ultimately benefit them.
“With the current economic climate in mind,
when every penny counts, the success of this collaborative approach
deserves to be recognised. Well done to everyone involved.”
