Parking changes
Improvements to the way people pay for their parking in a
Bromsgrove car park have been revealed – and the work includes a
change of location for recycling Bring Banks.
Work to upgrade the Recreation Road South car
park (outside ASDA supermarket) to a Pay on Foot system has already
begun, with new entrance and exit barriers due to be installed.
As part of the work the familiar recycling
Bring Banks will be permanently moved just down the road to the
Recreation Road North Pay & Display car park starting on
26th October 2009. The selection of Bring Banks will
remain unchanged, with facilities for paper & card, glass, can,
liquid cartons (like Tetrapacks) Textiles and Book recycling.
Unlike the Pay & Display system, where
users pay for parking time in advance and display a ticket, in the
Pay on Foot system users take a ticket upon entering the car park
and when ready to leave pay for actual time used on their ticket.
Pay on Foot eliminates the problems and charges associated with
expired tickets.
Prices will not change as a result of the
work, and the new machines will accept prepaid smart card and bank
note payments – also eliminating the need to carry the right
change.
Leader of Bromsgrove District Council Cllr.
Roger Hollingworth said: “Users of our busiest car park have told
us that paying for two hours of parking when you only need an hour
and a half is frustrating, and in any case you are against the
clock to make sure you are back to the car in time. We are
installing the Pay on Foot system to deal with these issues. It
makes it impossible to get a fine just because you may have
accidentally run out of time, so you will be able to enjoy
Bromsgrove town centre at your leisure.”
