Multi-storey enhancement
The multi-storey car park at Churchfields,
Bromsgrove, is due to be refitted with the latest lighting
technology.
Bromsgrove District Council has appointed
local company Barrie Beard Ltd to remove and replace the existing
lighting system with the latest “T5” technology.
This technology is far more reliable than the
old-fashioned fluorescent tubes used at present, will require fewer
replacements, and uses around 50% of the electricity.
Additional measures being installed are
sensors in non-essential lights to further lower electricity use,
and the total cost of the project is £25,000.
Portfolio-Holder for Community Services, which
includes car parks, Cllr Mike Webb said: “The new lighting will
further enhance the multi storey car park at Churchfields, which
has already achieved the national safer parking award.
“The car park has seen increased use since the
adoption of the pay on foot system there, is manned during opening
hours, and has 18 spaces for disabled and 10 spaces for parents
with children.
“The adoption of this new equipment will not
only save the tax payer money, but will reduce the carbon footprint
of operating the car park as well.”
Work is due to begin at the end of August 2010
and is expected to be completed within four weeks.
