Bromsgrove’s new Chairman
At last night’s Annual General Meeting of Bromsgrove
District Council, a new Chairman for the forthcoming year was
announced.
Cllr June Griffiths of Alvechurch, who has
lived in the District for most of her life, was nominated for the
role. She has been a councillor for 19 years and sits on a host of
Boards including the Corporate Parenting Board for Worcestershire
and the Worcestershire Health Scrutiny Board.
Described as “strong-willed and compassionate”
by Council Leader Roger Hollingworth, Cllr Griffiths chose Help for
Heroes as her chosen charity for the next year.
Chairman Griffiths said: “It is with
trepidation and gratitude that I take on this role and it is my
pleasure to serve the communities of Bromsgrove District. As
Chairman I intend to have a very local focus and I’m excited about
all the people I will meet over the next year.
“My aim in our Council Chamber is to ensure
fairness for all groups playing a part in providing local services
for the people of Bromsgrove district.
“And finally, I have chosen to support the
Help for Heroes charity as I want to publicly recognise and respect
the sacrifices our young soldiers make around the world, in the
difficult situations they are put into.”
Cllr Diane Campbell JP was nominated as
Vice-Chairman.
Civic dignitaries from across Worcestershire,
including Bewdley and Droitwich Spa, came to watch the proceedings
which also saw Cllr Roger Hollingworth re-elected as Leader.
Out-going Chairman Chris Scurrell announced
that although the figures had to be ratified he was expecting to
have raised £11,500 for his chosen charities British Heart
Foundation, Midlands Air Ambulance and Noah’s Ark Trust.
