Just 13% comes to the District Council

Tax-payers will see an increase of just 9p on Bromsgrove District Council’s part of the Council Tax bill as Members set the precept for the coming year.

Bills are set to land on residents’ door mats next month as the Council collects cash on behalf of partner agencies including Worcestershire County and Parish Councils, the Police and Fire Authority.

Band D properties will receive an overall bill for an average of £1502.04 – just 13% of this amount is kept by the District Council.

At last night’s meeting of Bromsgrove District Council, Members ratified the decision made in January that the increase for its part of the Council Tax bill will be 2.5%.

This will see Band D unparished residents paying £192.85 annually for District Council services including the waste and recycling collection, parks, street cleaning and building inspections.

Portfolio-holder for Resources Geoff Denaro said: “Like every other public body we are having to play our part in reducing the national debt incurred by this Government’s financial mismanagement.

“We have already built in estimated reductions to the money we will receive from the Government but through our efforts with the Shared Services Agenda with Redditch we have been able to reduce our increase to just 2.5% - the lowest it has been for more than ten years.

“By continuing to drive down costs through Shared Services Project with Redditch Borough Council we have budgeted savings of £250,000 for 2010/11, rising to £674,000 in 2012/13.

“This means we can continue to provide efficient services and invest in projects like the Town Centre which residents have told us are important to them.”
