Residents asked to give their views on future of Bromsgrove

Young child with houseBromsgrove District Council has teamed up with Redditch Borough Council to invite people to have their say on where new development should be located in and around the district over the next 16 years.

Following a Government review of housing need, Redditch borough has been given a target of providing around 7,000 new properties and 68 hectares of land for new employment by 2026.  Bromsgrove district is required to take around 3,000 of these new homes and find 25 hectares of land for employment.

The targets have been set by the West Midlands Regional Spatial Strategy and both Bromsgrove District Council and Redditch Borough Council now have to decide where the new properties and the employment land can be located on the borders of these two areas.

The two Councils are now working together and would like to hear what people think of all the possible options as part of a consultation.

Leader of Bromsgrove District Council Cllr Roger Hollingworth said: “After the Government’s inspection of the Regional Spatial Strategy, I am delighted that Bromsgrove District and Redditch Borough Councils will continue to work together to ensure that new building on our borders is handled appropriately. Consulting the public is the first step in that process.

“We will also ensure that new building within Bromsgrove District will be distributed fairly and equitably in the appropriate locations.”

Redditch Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Planning, Economic Development and Transport Cllr Colin MacMillan said: “The results of this consultation will help shape the look and feel of Redditch over the next 16 years.  Finding suitable locations for all these new homes is not going to be an easy task, which is why we want as much input from residents as possible.”

The following events are being held to give residents the chance to speak to a planning officer from either Councils:

  • Redditch Town Hall, 2pm to 9pm, 11th February
  • The Kingfisher Centre, all day, 13th February
  • The Palace Theatre, from 6.30pm, 24th February.

The consultation closes on 22nd March. More information is available at www.bromsgrove.gov.uk, www.redditchbc.gov.uk/corestrategy, or by telephone Bromsgrove on 01527 881316 or Redditch on 01527 64252 ext. 3081.
