Community Street Theatre enters 15th
year
The
15th anniversary year of public Street Theatre in
Bromsgrove district kicks off with a bang next week.
The first date in this year’s Street Theatre
calendar, which sees entertainment for the whole community laid on
in six fantastic fun-filled days in August, is set for Wednesday
August 4 at the Recreation Ground in Bromsgrove followed by August
5 at Wythall Park, Wythall.
Bromsgrove District Council portfolio holder
for Community Services Cllr Mike Webb said: “At every event each
year – whether that’s at Wythall, Hagley, Rubery or Bromsgrove – it
is obvious that Street Theatre brings the community together for
some fun and entertainment during the summer holidays.
“Due to the amazing support the events receive
from residents and visitors to the district alike, our Street
Theatre just keeps on running. We are very proud to see it enter
its fifteenth year.”
The first two dates feature brand new act
Bjorn the Polar Bear, as well as streetwalking characters from this
winter’s world-record-breaking blockbuster Avatar. All Street
Theatre days also see the return of old favourites including circus
skills workshops, hair braiding and face painting.
Street Theatre fun starts at 10am on every
date, with performances starting at 10.30am and then every hour on
the half hour until 1.30pm. Events finish at 2.30pm. Ice cream and
hot pancake stalls will be on hand just in case anyone doesn’t
bring their own picnic!
Heir of Insanity will perform their new
circuit act at the August 11 and 12 Street Theatre dates in
Bromsgrove and Hagley, and the popular Titan robot – as recently
featured on Channel 4’s Big Brother – will also be making two
return appearances on the August 18 and 19 Street Theatre dates in
Bromsgrove and Rubery.
The opening Street Theatre event on August 4
coincides with national Playday 2010, where thousands of children
and young people up and down the country get out and play at
locally organised events.
Street Theatre is just one part of Bromsgrove
District Council’s Go 4 Fun summer activity schedule. A brochure
with details of Go 4 Fun has been distributed to households and
schools and is available on the Events section of the district
council’s website http://www.bromsgrove.gov.uk/.
