Temporary car park on development site
opens
A temporary car park on the strategic town
centre development site at the South end of Bromsgrove’s High
Street is now open.
The new pay and display spaces will extend the
existing Hanover Street car park until the entire site including
the adjacent George House is developed into brand new town centre
space.
George House was acquired by the District
Council this month in a bid to extend the size of any potential
development site to a larger area suitable for comprehensive
development and opportunities to improve the public realm.
Bromsgrove District Council Leader Cllr Roger
Hollingworth said: “With the purchase of George House officers have
been instructed to put together plans for development of that whole
site. Obviously this will take a little time, but in the meantime
there are some convenient parking spaces instead of an empty
space.
“Design ideas at this early stage include
bringing the shops on Worcester Road truly into the town centre,
adding some extra town centre housing, the creation of a public
space with a water feature from a reshaped Spadesbourne Brook, and
more. With the potential development area now also able to
incorporate the George House site, the options are much
better.”
