Empty Space is home for Bromsgrove family
A new 'empty space' scheme being run by Bromsgrove District
council is offering advice and assistance to high street property
owners to convert unused space into residential
accommodation.
The scheme is already proving a great success
with new tenants Clive Evans and his daughter Natalie having moved
in on the 21st May into their bright and spacious new
home in Bromsgrove town centre.
Property owners Ann and David Parker have
undertaken significant renovations to convert a previous
Solicitor’s office into a desirable 2 bedroom flat to let
privately.
Ann and David have been assisted throughout
the process by officers who have offered advice on conversion
works, planning guidance, grant assistance and help with finding a
suitable tenant through the Council’s Step Up Private Tenancy
Scheme.
New Landlord Ann Parker said: “We are very
pleased with the support and assistance that we have received from
the officers at the Council and would encourage other owners to
consider making better use of empty and under used premises and see
what potential it may offer them.”
The scheme has been introduced through a joint
partnership between both Bromsgrove District Council and
Worcestershire County Council and is step forward in achieving the
regeneration programme aim of providing more housing in the town
centre.
Bromsgrove District Councils’ Housing
Initiatives Officer Jennifer DeLorenzo said: "The scheme is a
fantastic opportunity for owners to make better use of space in the
town centre to provide much needed accommodation for residents of
the district".
The Council’s Housing Team is currently
carrying out a survey of property owners within the town centre to
identify where further assistance may be needed. For more details
