Bromsgrove District Council – Achievement of Level 3 of the Equality Standard for Local Government

Bromsgrove District Council has been recognised by external assessment for its work in promoting equality.

A Peer Challenge Team spent two days on site at the Council House reviewing documentary evidence of the work that has been done over the last three years to improve equality of access and employment opportunity in Bromsgrove. They interviewed staff, officers, elected Members, Equality Champions and community members.

The Team were made up of senior officers and experienced elected elected Members from the Improvement and Development Agency for Local Government ( known as IDeA ), Birmingham City Council, Warwickshire County Council and Newcastle-upon-Tyne City Council.

At the end of the two days they announced that they were satisfied that the work done at Bromsgrove in support of Equality and Diversity was at a level to satisfy the standard required for Level 3. Bromsgrove is the first District Council in Worcestershire to achieve this Level.

The team recognised the work towards eliminating all forms of unfair and unlawful; discrimination on the grounds of age, disability, religion, race, gender or sexual orientation.

Bromsgrove joined a select group about 20 out of 238 District Councils in England at that time.

The detailed report is from the Peer Challenge Team is now available – you can download it here: Bromsgrove Diversity Peer Challenge Report.
