Pretty Awful…
We are running an anti fly tipping campaign from January –
March to try to reduce the number of fly tipping incidents we get
year on year in our district.
Look out for new banners on our refuse
vehicles when you are in our district and always be vigilant when
you suspect someone if fly tipping or acting suspiciously with a
vehicle loaded with rubbish.
We will be sending information to all business
in the district / borough about their responsibilities with rubbish
to ensure it does not pass into the hand of an illegal waste
carrier.
We will also be carrying out random spot
checks on businesses to see if they have the legal documents
proving they have a trade waste contract in place, anyone that
doesn’t may be liable to a £300 fine.
How you can help…
If you hire anyone that takes away waste from your home
(plumber, house or garden clearance, builder etc), you need to make
sure they are registered to do so. If they dump your waste you can
be held liable for the fine.
To find a reputable waste carrier, just ask
then for their licence number and check it with the Environment
Agency by calling 08708 506 506
If you witness a fly tipping incident, you
should:
- Record details of any vehicle involved, especially the
registration number
- Record descriptions of the people involved
- Record the time and date of the incident
- Record the location, type and amount of the waste
Photographs and video recording are useful but
at no point should you apprehend those responsible, or put yourself
at risk in any way. Do not touch the waste as it could contain
hazards such as chemicals or sharp objects.
