About Bromsgrove and the Council
The Council has a majority Conservative administration,
with 27 Conservatives, 10 Labour, 2 Wythall Residents'
Association.
The Council operates a modernised political structure with the
Leader/Cabinet model, supported by non-Executive Boards: Audit
Board and Overview & Scrutiny Board. There is also a
Planning Committee, Standards Committee and Licensing
Committee.
Bromsgrove District Council is now 'fair', according to
a report released in March 2009 by the independent
Audit Commission. The Council's comprehensive performance
assessment (CPA) rating increased from its earlier 'poor' score
following an inspection of its performance by the Commission. The
corporate assessment looked at the Council's ambitions, its ability
to improve its services and what it has achieved since the last
assessment.
New Challenges and Future Priorities
The Council has a Council Plan 2008-2011 which is supported by
an annual Improvement Plan. The Council Plan is the key
overarching document for the Council and sets out our business
objectives for the coming 3 years. It lists our vision,
values, objectives and priorities and the measures of success that
support them, together with a Strategic Action Plan and our
Performance Management Framework. The Council Plan is updated in
April every year.
The Improvement Plan is directly linked to the corporate
priorities identified in the Council Plan and was designed to
push the Council through to its Fair CPA rating.
Progress against the measures outlined in the Improvement Plan
is monitored on a monthly basis through exception reporting to
senior officers and elected members.
