Decision making

The Democratic Process

Like every other Council, the elected Members of Bromsgrove District Council make all of its most important decisions. These are the Councillors who are elected "through the ballot box" (that is, at local District Council elections) every 4 years. Only minor and routine matters are decided by (or delegated to) the paid officers.

There are 39 elected Members who meet approximately eight or nine times each year at The Council House, but in order to organise itself to carry out its heavy workload in the most effective manner, decisions of the Council are dealt with by the Executive Cabinet, Regulatory Committees and Boards of Members which deal with particular subjects and services.  Some matters are considered by the Executive Cabinet and the Standards Committee, which are then referred to the Council meeting for information or ratification (formal confirmation) only.

The Committee structure and the membership of each Committee are reviewed each year at the Council's annual meeting (usually in the first week of May).  You can get in touch with the various Council Members who sit on the various Committees, and read through the Agendas and Minutes of the Committees.

Public Questions

The Council's Constitution does not currently make provision for members of the public to raise questions at Cabinet, Committee or Council meetings.  However, any questions which members of the public may wish to raise can be submitted in writing to The Monitoring Officer, Bromsgrove District Council, The Council House, Burcot Lane, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, B60 1AA.  Questions received would then be directed to the relevant Councillor.
