Air Pollution
Certain polluting processes have to be authorised under
the provisions of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 or
permitted under the Pollution Prevention and Control Act 1999.
Bromsgrove has 25 of these processes. Fees are charged for
the work involved in the initial licensing process and for yearly
inspections.
Complaints of black/dark smoke from Commercial & Trade
premises are investigated under the provisions of the Clean Air Act
1993 and depending on the circumstances either informal or formal
action taken.
Complaints of general smoke nuisance from domestic, commercial
and industrial bonfires are investigated. Initially, standard
letters are sent out with appropriate literature, advising those
persons causing problems of the legal situation & encouraging
them to dispose of their rubbish by means other than that of
burning. The Environmental Strategy Unit feed into this process in
their Agenda 21/Sustainability role.
Although not in a Radon affected area, enquiries with respect to
Radon are dealt with by the section and appropriate advice given in
conjunction with The Building Control Section.
Cooling Tower Notification
The Notification of Cooling Towers and Evaporative Condensers
Regulations 1992 requires that all property owners register all of
these devices with the local authority. If yours is not, contact
the Health and Safety Unit to register.
The purpose of this is to prevent or control the spread of
legionellosis (including Legionnaires disease).
