Sustainability Appraisal
The land use planning system has a key role in delivering
sustainable development and reflecting the aspirations and
priorities of local communities. As such to promote sustainable
development it is essential that sustainability considerations are
built into the preparation and adoption of plans. The
Sustainability Appraisal (SA) will report on the extent to which
the implementation of plans will achieve the social, environmental
and economic objectives by which sustainable development can be
defined.
The undertaking of a SA is vital in the promotion of sustainable
development and the better integration of sustainability
considerations into the preparation and adoption of plans. SA will
not be a separate activity but an integral part of the plan making
process in Bromsgrove.

Scoping Report
This report has set the context, objectives and established the
baseline for deciding the scope of the sustainability appraisal. A
draft version of the Scoping Report can be downloaded below.
In particular the Scoping Report has;
- identified environmental, social and economic objectives, and
aims contained in other relevant plans and programs.
- identified and assessed the broad environmental, social and
economic characteristics of Bromsgrove District, and how these may
change.
- from evidence resulting from the above work, identified the key
issues that the Local Development Framework should address in
pursuit of sustainable development.
- set a timetable for carrying out the sustainability appraisal,
including objectives against which future options and policies can
be assessed, and indicators to monitor the objectives.
Sustainability Appraisal of the Issues and Options
An independent sustainability appraisal has been undertaken of
the Issues and Options for the Core Strategy. A copy of a report
detailing the findings of this appraisal can be downloaded below.
The results of this appraisal will be used to inform the production
of planning policies for the Core Strategy.
