Street Naming and Numbering
It is the responsibility of the Council to process
the Street Naming and Property Numbering on behalf of the Council
as a statutory undertaking throughout the District, ensuring
conformity to current standards as set down by the following
legislation:-
- Naming and Numbering of Streets in Accordance with the Town
Improvement Clauses Act 1847 Section 64 and 65
- The Public Health Act 1925, Section 17, 18 and 19
Although we are not responsible for specifying or suggesting
postal codes, we do work very closely with the Royal Mail Post
Codes service which provides information on new street names and
numbers, together with any changes to existing streets, house
numbering or house names.
Service providers are also forwarded with the latest street
name/numbering information to help with collation of their customer
base and service supply.
Large and small developers in addition to householders who wish to
change their house name or number may use this service
department.
