Bromsgrove Boccia Boars
Bromsgrove is rapidly becoming recognised for its achievements
in disability sport and the Boccia Boars club is its latest success
story. The Boccia Club, based at Chadsgrove School has been
identified as an exit route for the 'Playground to Podium'
initiative, the talent pathway for signposting disabled children
towards the Paralympics and has been awarded with a £500 grant for
equipment and club development from CP Sport.
Developed through the Keep on Moving, Sport England project
through the partnership of the Council's Sports Development team
and Chadsgrove Sports College, the club has really progressed,
competing in its first Regional Competition in March, with the
adults finishing 3rd and the junior team in
4th. Player Steve Battlewelch also represented the club
at the District Sports awards, winning the Disabled Sport Performer
Award.
Boccia is a game similar to French Boules, originally created
for people with cerebral palsy, but is open to all abilities. It
hosts both a junior and adult team and is currently the only Club
in Herefordshire and Worcestershire. The club also trains
volunteers and 3 team members are now trained Boccia leaders. If
