Ceremonial Commencement for Former Market Hall Project

On 10th December, ground was broken at the Former Market Hall site marking the beginning of the project.

Appointed contractors, Kier, are working in partnership with Bromsgrove District Council to achieve the ambitious plans for the Former Market Hall site that will see it become a modern, attractive, and usable asset to the town as part of wider town centre regeneration.

Leader of Bromsgrove District Council, Cllr, Karen May, said: “We were delighted to have been at the ceremonial groundbreaking for the Former Market Hall site project. The project promises to revitalise Bromsgrove Town Centre, bringing in a range of new opportunities for our residents to relax and work within their hometown.”

Plans for the site include an open-plan pavilion building, suitable for hosting exhibitions, markets, and community events. Along with a separate commercial building that will host office space, a ground floor restaurant, and a rooftop food and drink outlet.

The project forms a key cornerstone of the plans to transform Bromsgrove Town Centre into a vibrant space, promoting social interaction and bringing economic growth. Whilst also encouraging visitors to the town both day and night.

Managing Director, Kier Construction Eastern & Midlands, Mark Dady, said: “This is an exciting project that we are proud to be a part of. The modern transformation of the Former Market Hall site will revitalise the High Street and benefit the local community for decades to come.”

The work is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

The project is part of a £14.5million scheme funded by the UK Government via Levelling Up Funding in October 2021. The wider scheme encompasses several transformative projects in the town centre.

Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Regeneration, Cllr. Sue Baxter, said: “This project represents the importance of regeneration in Bromsgrove. The Former Market Hall site is key in the town centre and seeing it on its way to being back open with a new purpose as pride of place in the town centre is welcomed.”
