Pathways Closed For Resurfacing

A popular walking route through St John the Baptist Church (St John’s) will be closed this month for several weeks whilst essential maintenance work is carried out.

Pathways to the North of St John’s, near the New Cemetery, will be closed from 11 Feb until the end of March whilst significant but essential resurfacing work takes place.

Environmental Services Portfolio Holder, Cllr Peter Whittaker, said: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the closure and aim to get the work completed as quickly as possible.

“The works will make the area safer for both residents using the area on their way through the town and visitors to the church.”

Rev Ray Khan, vicar of St Johns, said: "The churchyard is an oasis for many and a popular cut through too.

“The church and the council have been concerned over the condition of the paths. I am grateful for the work that the council will do to make this oasis a continued space for peace and journeying”.
