Refurbished Tennis Courts reopen in Sanders Park
Tennis enthusiasts can now enjoy an improved playing experience as newly refurbished tennis courts in Sanders Park reopen to the public following a £15,000 investment.
This boost to Bromsgrove’s local sports facilities has been delivered by the LTA (Lawn Tennis Association), with funding provided by the UK Government and the LTA Tennis Foundation as part of a £30million investment in park tennis facilities across Britain. The courts at Sanders Park were repainted by Fosse Contracting Ltd, ensuring a modern, attractive, and safe environment for play.
Leisure Portfolio Holder for Bromsgrove District Council, Cllr Steve Colella, said: "This work reinforces our dedication as a council to providing accessible, affordable and good quality leisure opportunities for our residents. Huge thanks to the LTA Tennis Foundation and central government for their generous contribution so that this work could be completed. I hope the new and improved courts are enjoyed by many for years to come."
This nationwide programme of investment is seeing thousands of existing park tennis courts, in poor or unplayable condition, brought back to life for the benefit of communities across the country, providing vital opportunities for children and adults to get active.
As well as weekly free park tennis sessions, with equipment provided, the refurbished courts will host Local Tennis Leagues, giving people the opportunity to get involved in friendly and social local competitions. The upgraded facility can be enjoyed for just £2.50 per court per hour, making it affordable and inviting to residents from all walks of life. Rackets and balls are also available to borrow from the on-site café.
A spokesperson for the LTA said: “After months of hard work, we’re delighted to see the tennis courts at Sanders Park officially back open to the public, and in better shape than ever. Public tennis courts are such vital facilities for getting active and we want as many people as possible, of all ages and abilities, to pick up a racket and enjoy playing tennis. Thanks to this investment the sport will be opened up to more players, for years to come.”
As part of ongoing improvements to the tennis courts, plans are in the pipeline for a new online booking system and coded gates for more secure access. In the meantime, anyone wishing to hire the courts can do so via the café.
